FLY AIR BOTSWANA WITH LEADING CAR RENTAL BRANDS

About Air Botswana (BP)

Air Botswana (BP) is the flag carrier of Botswana, operating a slim network of domestic and regional flights from its hub at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Gaborone, the capital city of Botswana. Its fleet consists of twin-engine turbo propeller aircraft. As the national airline, Air Botswana provides world-class services to domestic business travellers and tourists drawn to the country’s abundance of natural beauty and wildlife attractions.

  Popular Destinations

Air Botswana’s most popular destinations are basically its only destinations. The airline serves four cities in Botswana (Francistown, Gaborone, Kasane, and Maun), two cities in South Africa (Cape Town and Johannesburg); plus Lusaka, Zambia, and Harare, Zimbabwe. As Botswana continues to benefit from a growing economy and its strategic importance in the southern Africa region, expect the number of destinations to increase in the near future.

  Choosing your car

You can save money by pairing up an Air Botswana car rental with Avis, Europcar, National, and Sixt, and our service can make that connection with even better deals on cheap car rentals. All the standard vehicle types are offered: economy and compact sedans, intermediate and fullsize 4-door sedans, estate wagons, SUVs, 7-12 seater minivans and more!

Tips for Air Botswana Passengers Renting Cars

1

The minimum age to rent a car in Botswana is 23 years old, and your driver’s license must be valid for a minimum of one year after the rental period. There’s an oddball exception for drivers 21 and older present an American Express credit card at the time of rental.

2

Air Botswana car rentals include a Collision/Loss Damage Waiver (CDW/LDW) and Theft Protection. It’s highly recommended to call your credit card issuer and inquire about your coverage for travel in Botswana and other southern Africa destinations before signing off on an Excess Damage Waiver, which covers the amount above the CDW/LDW.

3

All wheel-drive SUVs are the only vehicles allowed to drive on unpaved roads, and in some cases, the car provider won’t permit any driving on non-sealed routes. Your rental agreement and insurance polices become null and void if you violate these terms, resulting in significant penalties.

4

Car availability varies in Botswana. All vehicle types are available in Gaborone, but only economy, compact, and intermediate sedans and SUVs are available in other cities. It’s possible to request a 7-12 seater minivan in Francistown, Maun, and Kasane, but multiple surcharges will apply.

5

Cross border rentals are subject various terms and conditions by location, but border crossings must be requested in advance — in writing. Fees apply for crossing into Namibia and Zimbabwe, but not for South Africa. Vehicles are prohibited from entering Angola, Malawi, Mozambique or Zambia. Regardless of your travel itinerary, it’s always a good idea to discuss your plans with the car hire provider, especially in order to avoid after-the-fact surcharges.

6

Avoid one-way fees by returning the car to the same location. The cost of dropping off a Botswana car hire at any other location can exceed the entire rental charge.
