Air Zimbabwe (UM) is the flag carrier of Zimbabwe. From its only hub located at Harare International Airport, the airline operates a limited number of low-cost flights to mostly domestic and regional destinations. Tips for Air Zimbabwe Passengers Renting Cars
Due to political upheaval and poor economic conditions, solo travel is not advisable in Zimbabwe. Many areas of the country are considered off-limits to foreign travelers, and still more are only advisable within a tour group. Likewise, your car hire can be a target for theft and vandalism. Air Zimbabwe car rental rates spike in August, when prices are often twice that of other months. The best car hire rates are available January through April.
All car hires booked through Air Zimbabwe include Collision/Loss Damage Waiver (CDW/LDW), Theft Protection (TP). There are separate excess (deductible) amounts for both policies, plus an additional deposit equal to both amounts, meaning your credit card must have approximately four times the amount of available credit than the general total of your rental.
You must be 21 years of age to rent a car in Zimbabwe and have held your license for a minimum of three years prior to your rental period. Drivers under the age of 25 will pay an additional daily rate.
Cash only rentals are available in Zimbabwe; however, debit cards are not accepted. Be advised that cash payments will necessitate cash deposits, as outlined above. Meanwhile, if using a credit card, the name of the primary renter and driver must match the name on the credit card used to secure the booking.
Car hires in Zimbabwe are not allowed to be taken out of the country, so it’s not possible to rent a car in Harare for travel to Johannesburg.
