About Alice Springs Airport (ASP)
Address: Santa Teresa Rd, Alice Sprgs Not(3), 0870, Nt, Nt
Alice Springs Airport is located in Connellan, 14 km from the Alice Springs Central Business District (CBD), in the Australian Outback.
Located between the East and West MacDonnell Ranges, Alice Springs is Australia’s most famous outback town. Without a doubt, renting a car is the best way to experience the region and you don’t really need a 4WD.
Contrary to belief, the outback is not just flat and dusty. It has a very diverse ecosystem with ancient mountains, like the Flinders Ranges, and lots of trees. There are glistening salt lakes fringed by endless grassy plains, and for a special experience you can consider booking a hot-air balloon trip to absorb the vastness of this land.
Alice Springs Airport is 15 min drive to the south of Alice Springs town — the main entry point in the heart of Central Australia. Alice Springs Airport is small, and once off the plane you have a short walk across the tarmac.
The Alice Springs Airport car rental counters are conveniently located inside the Arrivals area near the baggage collection desk.
You cannot see the town from the airport. It is located on the other side of the MacDonnell Ranges, a short drive along the Stuart Highway and in through Heavitree Gap. The airport is well-signposted from Alice Springs and its surrounding areas.

Tips and advice
Plan your trip carefully. Alice Springs is a long way from everywhere. Coober Pedy is 600km south, Tennant Creek is 503km north and Darwin is 1500km away!
Conditions on dirt roads vary, depending on the weather, usage of the road, and when last the surface was graded. Main Outback roads, although unsealed, are usually in fairly good condition. Nevertheless, drive with your headlight on and avoid driving on wet roads.
Be aware of hidden dangers like potholes and soft edges. Speeding here is not a good idea.
Think twice before overtaking. What you think is a truck could as well be a ‘road train’ which can be up to 50m long!
Outback roads and tracks usually traverse private property. Please stay on designated roads.
You might get caught even in the smallest town for using your mobile while driving or driving under the influence of alcohol.
