Head to T1 International terminal Arrivals hall where the car hire desks are located. Once you've collected your keys, you will be directed to the ground level of the multi-storey car park P7. This is just opposite the T1 International terminal. If you are picking up your rental car from the T2 or T3 Domestic terminals, follow the signs for rental cars in the Arrivals hall.
Getting around
Leaving the airport car rental area, you will drive via the M1 Eastern Distributor Motorway - which is one of Sydney’s toll roads — to the Sydney CBD. The trip is practically a straight line that runs from north to south and will take just over 20 minutes in normal traffic conditions. However, this road is often heavily congested during peak periods. The other option is to drive via O’Riordan Street, which runs almost parallel to the M1 and doesn’t involve tolls, but also involves congestion at certain points so might take longer.
The M5 South Western Motorway links the airport to the South Western Suburbs of Sydney and onwards to Canberra and Melbourne. It is tolled west of the Kingsgrove Road exit.

Tips and advice for renting a car at Sydney Airport

Australia is very strict on immigration and customs procedures. You might get caught up in the queue for more than an hour.

The terminals are busy at peak periods (07:00 - 09:00). If you need to get in or out of the airport by car, try and avoid these times.

The airport has an overnight curfew from 11:00 to 17:30. The terminals close after the last flight and delayed flights can only depart or arrive the next morning.

Car lanes that says T2 or T3 means there must be either 2 people or 3 people in the car to be able to drive in that lane.

Driving along Sydney Harbour Bridge can be daunting. The 8 lanes go off in all directions, so be prepared.

Traffic police are very strict: Always use your seatbelt and don’t dare to look at your mobile while driving. Fines are steep.
